Holland 0-1 Denmark
Denmark notched the first Euro 2012 upset on Day 2, as they beat the highly fancied Netherlands 1-0 at the Metalist Stadium in Ukraine.
The Dutch were dominant throughout the 90 minutes, yet were wasteful in front of goal, allowing a 24th minute strike from Michael Krohn-Dehli to steal the points for the Danes.
Krohn-Dehli fooled three Dutch defenders with a smooth touch before hammering a left footed shot through the legs of their keeper.
Holland, despite racking up 29 shots to Denmark's 8, couldn't hit the target, with their in-form striker Robin Van Persie the main culprit in front of goal. Van Persie missed a couple of sitters, and generally seemed off his game, which could open the door for Klaas Jan Huntelaar to step into the side in their next match.
The Dutch could, and probably should, have had a penalty late in the match, when Huntelaar looped the ball off Lars Jacobsen's arm, but it would not to be for the Netherlands.
Arjen Robben came the closest for the Oranje's, when he saw his shot come off the base of the post midway through the first half.
Denmark keeper Stephan Andersen had a great game, denying the Dutch forward on a number of occasions.
With the 3rd ranked German's up next, the Dutch now must take all 3 points to avoid making the 'Group of Death' even trickier.
Germany 1-0 Portugal
Germany took advantage of the Netherlands' shock loss by recording a hard fought 1-0 win over Portugal to finish Day 2.
The game seemed destined for a draw before German striker Mario Gomez headed home in the 72nd minute to seal all 3 points for the Euro 2008 Finalists.
Germany dominated possession throughout the first half, however should have been behind when Pepe struck the crossbar following a scrap to clear a corner.
Yet the German's dominance eventually paid off, when Sami Khedira's right wing cross was met by a firm Gomez header. It was a classic centre forward's goal from the Bayern Munich star, and it occurred just moments before he was scheduled to be substituted out of the match.
The goal sprung Portugal to life, and they hit the woodwork again later in the match. Nani's floated cross from the right caught out a flat footed Germany keeper, but deflected off the crossbar.
Portugal forced a good save from Manuel Neuer with just minutes remaining, but the German defence held strong to grab a 1-0 win to open their campaign.
With Germany and Denmark the winners from Day 2, the 'Group of Death' has been burst wide open, and is anyone's for the taking.
Denmark 3 (+1)
Germany 3 (+1)
Holland 0 (-1)
Portugal 0 (-1)
